Might be a little young, but great stories.Īnd it's sequel Search for the Red Dragon The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan. I recommend all Tamora Pierce books, at least the Tortall ones (I have loved them forever and reread them at least once a year)! Various books by William Mayne - he's just such a great stylistīrian Fairfax-Lucy, The Children of the HouseĪntonia Forest - I just think everybody should read her Some of Diana Wynne Jones is so subtly funny and so cleverly plotted, should cross over the way Harry Potter has. Helen Cresswell's Bagthorpe books are hilariously funny for any age, especially the first ones in the series. Sylvia Cassedy, Lucy Babbidge's House - so complex that it's almost hard for a child to read, but a brilliant book. Peter Carey 's Jack Maggs, an adult book, felt to me like a take-off on Garfield's children's books. Leon Garfield 's books also often cross over easily. There are Rumer Godden books that it's very hard to place age-wise-I'm a big fan of her's in general, though. Some Nina Bawden books, obviously Carrie's War but others too. Other more "children's" books that make good adult reads: Those are the ones that I think of as "YA". Peytonīerlie Doherty, Deep Secret - lovely, I'm reading it now Richard Mosher, Zazoo - smart and sophisticatedįlambards and other books by K. Most of Jane Gardam's YA books are good adult reading: The Summer After the Funeral, Bilgewater, A Long Way from Verona
